Committees are created by the board of directors. Any member in good standing may sit on a committee.

The Membership Committee
The membership committee was created to facilitate and manage our member database. It’s biggest objective is updating contact information for the membership so the organization can communicate through newsletters, updates and event invitations. Getting current contact information for all our members is our highest alumni priority. The membership committee is where we most need your help.

The Communications Committee.
The communications committee oversees the monthly DU View e-newsletter and the Quarterly newsletter. It also manages and updates Duck Talk, the organization’s website.

The position of historian is a subcommittee of the communications committee.

The Programs Committee
The programs committee is divided into two focus areas, programs for the chapter and programs for the alumni. Programs for the chapter include seminars and presentations to help the undergraduates enhance their leadership skills and prepare for their careers by providing resume writing assistance and interview tips. It also overseas alumni scholarships to the undergraduates as well as our matching program that matches new graduates with alumni in their field of study.

The programs committee also facilitates the monthly alumni business networking breakfast and helps to promote business opportunities for the membership. The committee also helps alumni with carrier placement opportunities.

The Social Events Committee
The social events committee hosts our annual and other planned events such as the Founders Day tailgate, wiffle ball tournaments, golf tournaments, Padres games, Aztec basketball events and so on.

A notable subcommittee is the Reunions Subcommittee that plans the association’s five year reunions.

Committee Chair: Joe Duffle

The Fund Raising Committee
Other than the annual membership dues, the association does not have a regular source of income. We hold liquid assets and real estate, but in order to achieve the goals we have planned, the association must undertake proactive measures to raise funds. This committee is not charged with raising funds, but was established to create ways to generate revenue. Raising funds is the responsibility of the entire membership and not just one committee; however, a committee is needed to plan and facilitate the fund raising effort. There is no chair at this time.

Ad Hoc Committees

From time to time the board of directors establishes ad hoc committees to address a need of the fraternity or the organization. Currently there are two ad hoc committees that are charged with addressing specific needs. The ad hoc committees will be dissolved when their objectives have been met.

Strategic Planning
The strategic planning committee was created by the board of directors to determine a direction and mission statement for the organization. It identifies the association’s objectives and works on a strategy to achieve those objectives, ensuring that efforts are consistent with the mission.

Committee Chair: Lou Tapia

The Chapter Room
A committee was established late last year to address the need for a proper chapter room for the house. The association has drawn on its resources to refurbish the existing garage, converting it into a suitable chapter room. We expect completion by Founders Day, 2010.

Committee Chair: Bill Deering
